When our children are young, we try to control their behavior, and we often continue to do so as they enter their adolescent years. But Dr. psychologist Kenneth Wilgus says this is a mistake, that we need to revise our approach, recognizing that our teens are no longer kids, but adults-in-training.
On this Focus on the Family broadcast, Dr. Wilgus recommends a strategy of "planned emancipation" whereby we carefully and progressively remove our control over key areas of our teens' lives while communicating to them that this part of growing up, and that they need to learn how to make good decisions for themselves. Listen in and find out how you can wisely relinquish control and instead influence your teen's life choices in positive and respectful ways.
