Mere Christianity, one of the greatest Christian books of the twentieth century, was created as a series of radio broadcasts in a time of great conflict and adversity. England had gone to war with Germany. It was a time of strain, heartbreak, and weariness. The leaders at the BBC knew the nation needed a moral underpinning to face the crisis and embarked on an aggressive program to provide it. So they commissioned some of the greatest Christian minds to step up. C.S. Lewis agreed to help, resulting in the now-famous Broadcast Talks that became Mere Christianity. This behind-the-scenes drama integrates the ideas Lewis explored in Mere Christianity with the very real impact of living out a Christian life in a period of trauma: the conflicts pressed hard against the times of grace, compassion, the love of Christ shown to neighbors, and the reasons to trust in God when the world screams otherwise. This Radio Theatre production also touches on the essentials the faith and worldview, not merely as an academic exercise, but as a true life experience.

WHAT IS RADIO THEATRE? Radio theatre is the bridge between film and audiobooks in the format of a dramatised, purely acoustic performance. It is an immersive experience for listeners to imagine the characters and the story through dialogue, music and sound effects. Unmatched, Focus on the Family’s Radio Theatre is award winning with performance from internationally acclaimed actors. More than an audio book it is a movie that plays on the biggest screen of all... your imagination.

    C.S. Lewis at War

Posted by Matt Fincher on Mar 3rd 2017

I have a long commute to work everyday, so I prefer audio books. I received the "C.S. Lewis at War" CD pack as a gift, and I have listened to it at least 4 or 5 times. It is an excellent production depicting the personal life of C.S. Lewis at the onset of World War 2. The realistic interactions between him and his family as well as his relationship with the BBC employees is brought to life in a very riveting manner! I never realized the course of events that led to the culmination of Lewis' radio broadcasts, which ultimately were released in a compilation called "Mere Christianity". This is a brilliant work, and I would highly recommend it as a primer to the legendary book.
