Dr. Ken Wilgus has developed a parenting process he calls "planned emancipation" whereby parents prepare their teens for adulthood by gradually giving them authority over their own decisions and by pursuing influence over control. On this Focus on the Family Daily Broadcast, Dr. Wilgus, along with parenting podcast hosts Jessica Pfeiffer and Ashley Parrish, explain why this emancipation process is not a formula for perfect parenting, and they discuss some of their own struggles in implementing the process. Our guests address the problem of teen entitlement and review a list of common parenting mistakes including lecturing, getting overly involved, and not differentiating between advice vs. 'have-to' rules. Our panel also explains how and why parents must eventually let their teens make their own decisions about church and faith.
