In this Radio Theatre audio drama adaptation of George MacDonald's classic story, a beautiful woman known as the North Wind blows through a small village in Victorian London, and everyday lives are mysteriously enveloped by a power and a glory. Along the way, she visits a poor stable boy named Diamond and takes him with her on her journeys. At the Back of the North Wind explores the place of death in our lives, social injustice, and our deep need for love and forgiveness.

C. S. Lewis, author of the classic Chronicles of Narnia series, said of MacDonald, “What he does best is fantasy—fantasy that hovers between the allegorical and the mythopoeic. And this, in my opinion, he does better than any man. MacDonald is the greatest genius of this kind whom I know.”

What is radio theatre? Radio theatre is the bridge between film and audiobooks in the format of a dramatised, purely acoustic performance. It is an immersive experience for listeners to imagine the characters and the story through dialogue, music and sound effects. Unmatched, Focus on the Family’s Radio Theatre is award winning with performance from internationally acclaimed actors. More than an audio book it is a movie that plays on the biggest screen of all... your imagination.

Customer Reviews

An old, charming tale made into a format easy for children to enjoy. Deep ideas and few, but very unique characters. This drama is wonderfully woven, part with the thread of George MacDonald's genius storytelling, along with Focus on the Family's expertise in the art of dramatizing. Of course, the story becomes even better when you add in the embroidery of a child's imagination, which is fiercely ignited when faced with this windy tale. Go ahead, enjoy your journey over the London rooftops, grasped in the arms of the North Wind and... beyond. Review by K.E Hiebert Posted: 10/25/2018
